Assignment 8A

My selected opportunity stems from the stated fact of Global Warming. There is a ton of proof and a ton of science behind the fact that the way in which we consume and our way of life in general is continuously and constantly polluting the planet. Sea levels are rising, temperatures are becoming more drastic, and weather patterns are becoming more chaotic and unbalanced. Those living in multiple places fear the risk of loosing their homes due to rising sea levels or massive hurricanes that spin out of control and damage everything in their path, one specific place in the planet that should is Miami, FL (technically all of South Florida). South Florida is one of the places that are supposed to be under water by the end of a couple upcoming decades. It has also been noted that the world’s richest people are those those that have the biggest carbon footprint due to the fact that they have the means to consume more, travel more, buy more, etc. When you ask multiple people why it is they don’t live an environmentally friendly lifestyle or why they aren’t more “green” they respond that it is a hassle they do not have the time for. It takes meticulous consciousness and changing habits that they simply don’t have the time nor energy to change… so what if it could all be changed for them without interfering with their time, responsibilities, or energy? What if we could provide a solution to cutting down on household’s carbon footprints while at the same time doing so in a luxurious, efficient, and tech-savvy way?
I came up with the idea for Green Smart Systems as a company that provides the service of updating family homes or apartment buildings into greener and smarter environments through technology. The service would provide a smart house whose focus would be to cut down on the household’s carbon footprint, energy use, and inefficient waste without costing its inhabitants discomfort in their homes, nor a massive change in lifestyle. This service would also have a control panel where the clients could monitor how much they’ve saved on water and electricity, how much waste they avoided, and by how much their carbon footprint has diminished. This service would include the implementation of automatic-recylcing garbage cans that analyze what is being thrown out and sort it accordingly. It also would have automatic composting systems next to the sinks where food waste can be thrown out and decomposed the right way to then use as fertilizer. The sink would have automatic sensors that turn the water off when there is no one standing there to use it. The shower and water tank would also have massive innovations to cut down on its use. Solar panels would be implemented on the roof. The whole nine-yards.
Our target audience would include not only people who would like the whole “green-smart house” package but to those who would just like to implement certain services or products in their home to make it greener in a tech-savvy way.
