First Interview: Mom & Dad

Me: Hi Maria could I’m conducting this interview to understand a little bit more about what sets me apart from the rest, what makes me unique. Can we start off by you telling me three things you think are unique about me?

Mom: There are a lot of amazing things about you and I love all of them but what makes you unique is the way in which you aim to see the best in everyone, your heart and intentions are so pure and you can notice it by just having one conversation with you because it’s the energy that you give off. You are also incredibly intelligent, you are always able to take something completely new and master it in no time. Its extraordinary. As for the third thing that makes you unique I think its your way of understanding and knowing how to calm down other people or how to react to them to make them secure of themselves.

Me: Thank you for that. Do you think that I have grown into these traits or have I always been like this?

Mom: you have always been intelligent since you were a little girl you had an ease for learning but the way in which you can reach out to people and understand them is definitely something you’ve grown into with the years and as you’ve come to make new relationships.

Me: Dad do you agree or would you like to add something?

Dad: I agree with everything your mom is saying but I also think that what sets you apart is your willingness to help others and do the right thing no matter the cost. Like your mom said you have a very pure heart and it really shows when people get to really know you.

Me: Thank you so much its nice to know that you guys think of me this way. That will conclude this interview. Thank you for your time and attention.

Second Interview: Three Bestfriends

Me: Hi guys, I’d like to go around and ask you guys to describe me using one word but that word has to be something that makes me completely unique. Okay lets start on this side, Luisa.

Luisa: your optimism.

Paola: your intelligence

Vicky: quick learner

Me: Okay luisa elaborate please.

Luisa: Well your always super optimistic about life and no matter what life throws at you you’ve been able to overcome it all. You’re a friend that I can honestly say has been through a lot but you’ve never let it break you you just take it and allow yourself to grow stronger and that’s an amazing quality to have that not a lot of people can do.

Me: Thank you I really appreciate that. Paola can you elaborate?

Paola: Well I agree with luisa but I think above all I have never met someone so smart like you are. You barely try and you just easily understand things. You don’t have to study long hours, you can just simply read a chapter of organic chemistry and find meaning and connect the dots to be able to apply it. That’s just always been you. I’ve always said that you could have gone to Harvard if you would have applied yourself and set that as a goal because youre just that smart.

Me: I am honestly in shock, thank you so much for your kind words. Vicky can you elaborate on your word?

Vicky: well it kind of ties in with what Paola just said like you are able to get put in whatever environment and you will be successful because you just quickly learn how to adapt and how to be successful. Not only in academics but in your professional life and social life as well. You don’t shy away from new things, you take them on and learn very quickly how to deal with change.

Me: Thank you so much guys for your time I really appreciate it, I love you all.

Summary and Comparison:

Everyone has unique qualities that makes them, well them. The five qualities that set me apart from the rest are my unwavering optimism, my charisma, my ability to take into consideration multiple perspectives, my empathy, and my yearning to learn. My unwavering optimism allows me to be completely secure in my decisions and to trust in the process. In trusting in the process it allows me to be able to follow my dreams without a fear of failure. If I do in fact fail it does not get me down but inspires me to be better due to the fact that I yearn to learn and to continuously grow as a professional and person. This is essential because life will throw you massive hurdles that you’ll have to jump over and many times you might fail in the first attempt, if you do not have this type of attitude you’ll find yourself and your project stuck. My charisma and empathy allows me to connect with people on multiple levels, both engaging them in social situations and also understanding their needs and wants by simply having conversations with them because it is so easy for me to find a perspective on something outside my own-self. That is my take on what makes me absolutely special and unique. Those attributes all together are what set me apart from the rest.

I interviewed my parents, my three best friends, and my boyfriend. They all agreed that what set me apart from most was my charisma and my unwavering optimism, some of them even called it “the fact that I see ponies and rainbows everywhere I go”. My parents said that how quickly I am able to learn and master a skill is very significant in what sets me apart but they also said that my heart sets me apart and that I am someone who is honestly pure-hearted and not interested in taking advantage of others. They said that this was huge because it made me someone very easy to trust and to talk to. I think that my parents were able to see more of me on an emotional side and my bestfriends were able to talk about the qualities with which I take on life just because they are very different relationships.
