Assignment 14A

Keeping up with an online class, especially when you work a full-time job is very complicated and hectic. It requires a lot of responsibility, attention, and discipline. Above all discipline. You have to discipline yourself and manage your time in such a way that you set aside sufficient amount of time to be able to succeed within the course. This can be difficult if you have tons of other responsibilities, the key is to get into a weekly routine or a daily routine if the class requires massive amounts of time. A weekly routine has worked best for me because it makes it easier to remember to do the class because once the habit is created it comes naturally. Every Thursday after work I catch up on everything for the class that pertains to that week and if I have time on Sundays I will try to get ahead a bit to give me some leeway. That is also key, if you have the time always get ahead because you never know when something will come up and you won’t have time to do an assignment said week.

At the beginning of the course there are tons of moments when I felt like I just couldn’t pin down my idea. I had an idea but I didn’t understand how to bring it to life in a way that would make it a good one. As an entrepreneur it requires more self confidence to bring to life these ideas because they are essentially yours. There are times at the beginning of the course where I didn’t participate because I honestly just didn’t have the time to sit and dedicate to thinking through these complex prompts and really bringing forward a business plan essentially for my idea. I am a perfectionist and this held me back from being able to participate because I didn’t want to write something just to write something and I simply couldn’t find an idea to go with. I felt like giving up a couple of times because I didn’t want to do bad in the course but I pushed myself through it and told myself to not give up and to push through what I needed to do.

Some tips that I would give future classmates is to just flow with your ideas. An idea does not have to be perfect and you might realize as the class continues that the idea really isn’t a good one. That is what entrepreneurship is all about. Don’t try to come up with this million dollar idea off the bat or feel bad when you are not able to. A ton of successful business men and women started off with a couple failures before hitting the target. Don’t give yourself a hard time and trust the process, this will make you more tenacious when going after an idea instead of feeling insecure about your insights. Consistency is key to generating a tenacious mindset of not giving up. Tips to foster consistency is to develop a routine and to stick to that routine NO MATTER WHAT! A third and final tip would be to learn efficient time management.
